Reflections on War & Peace - Veteran's Day at UAF
Though the Alaska Peace Center has no activities planned for Friday, November 11, some APC associates are sponsoring a peace presentation at UAF's Wood Center Ballroom. Posted on behalf of Tarika Lea and Jeanne Olson:
There's a bit of modification to the scheduling of events for Friday, November 11th. In recognition of this national holiday (it still feels right to call it Armistice Day), there will be a combined event, "Reflections on War & Peace" to be held at 7 p.m. in the UAF Wood Center Ballroom. There will be photos/video clips from the historic "March on Washington" held in September, & we will also honor the casualties of all war with song, prayer and drumming. (Please bring a drum, if you have one). We hope that by combining our presentations, there will be a greater sense of community and opportunity to wage peace.
To most Americans, this day is now known as Veteran's Day. However, a forgotten fact is that in 1938, the U.S. Congress declared "Each November 11th shall be dedicated to the cause of world peace and hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day."
hope to see you there.
